Workshops & Short Course Programs
The Book Grotto run writing workshops after school during school terms, and in the school holidays.
Workshops are conducted in small groups and equip young writers with practical writing tools and techniques. You'll share stories and workshop feedback, receive unique writing prompts inspired by fabulous children's books, and have opportunities to be published online or maybe even in our annual Book Grotto anthology!

Create Your Own Magical World:
Do you love fantasy, fairytales, magic, monsters, mythology, science fiction? Learn how to create rich fantasy worlds populated by delightful creatures and intriguing magic systems. We will draw on popular children's fantasy books for inspiration.
Young writers also have the opportunity for their work to be featured on The Book Grotto blog and in newsletters.
When: Wednesday 8th April, 10am-12pm

Suitable for: Ages 8 - 13
Storytellers Club 4-Week Workshop
Over the course of this 4-week workshop, young writers will take literary-inspired journeys, drawing inspiration from popular children's books to create epic imaginative worlds, craft spooky mysteries, have action-packed adventures and explore how to tease out stories from everyday life.
Young writers will workshop ideas and receive individual feedback on their writing from host Sam-Ellen Bound. They will also have the opportunity to have their work featured on The Book Grotto blog and in newsletters.
When: Thursdays 23rd April, 30th April, 6th May, 13th May, 4-5pm
Where: Book Grotto Studio, Centrepoint Arcade Geelong
Cost: $110
*Class sizes are capped at 12 participants.
Young writers are welcome to arrive up to 15 minutes before the start time and must be picked up no later than 15 minutes after workshop ends.
